Position Objectives:
This is a labor intensive position performing the daily duties that comprise the operations of the City of Gretna’s Public Works Department and maintenance of Park and Recreation facilities. Work is performed under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor and/or the Assistant Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Daily work involves performing duties within the area of Public Works, in addition to duties in general and specialized areas. Maintenance work performed considerably contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness with which the Public Works Department operates. Performance is reviewed through conferences, observations, customer feedback, and by results achieved.Minimum Requirements:
Requires varied knowledge, skills and abilities in plumbing, mechanics, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, garbage collection, etc., using modern techniques, methods, procedures and practices, where applicable; ability to follow written and oral instructions, and verbally communicate effectively. Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver’s License and be able to lift 50 pounds.
Graduation from an accredited high school with a diploma or earning of a GED preferred.
Desirable Training and Experience:
One to two (1 to 2) years of demonstrated experience in general trade work in one or more of the widely accepted trades disciplines.
